Indices Relating to Variable Renewable Penetration Level For Preliminary Microgrid Stability Assessment

Résumé

This article proposes new indices for microgrid stability assessment. Various definitions of renewable penetration level in the literature are firstly reviewed and their influence on power system stability is discussed. It is found that the limit of variable renewable penetration varies on a case-per-case basis. Consequently, new indices are necessary as a guide in the design and operations of microgrids. The new indices are introduced based on practical requirements of maintaining power supply and balance stability. The usability of the indices is then validated with the results from the literature, which has confirmed the practicability of the indices for microgrid planning and operations.
