Résumé

This poster was produced within the framework of Science Studies and more specifically of the Geography of Science; it analyses the network of co-publications of articles on Theoretical and Quantitative Geography published in the journal L’Espace géographique between 1972 and 2008. In order to disseminate their research and to demonstrate the viability of their movement, the stakeholders of the theoretical and quantitative geography communicate through different means, on their own or together. The latter can be advantageous as it reveals the existence of a movement. The study of these stakeholders’ (co)productions allows us to expose the dynamism of the movement and its spatial configuration. This network studied through the prism of the articles published in a journal open to the theoretical and quantitative movement unveils a strong effect of proximity in the choice of co-authors, with a predominance of historical figures of the movement who started published two decades ago. This result shows an initial period of emergence composed of small cohesive groups, followed by a period of duplication of the theoretical and quantitative movement during which doctoral students appeared. These relationships between thesis supervisors and doctoral students led to the expansion of the scientific movement. This graph also illustrates the presence of weak cross-border relationships between France and Switzerland, as well as forms of regionalization (South-East and Groupe Dupont) and of national expansion. This analysis therefore allows us to highlight the spatial logics in the emergence and the diffusion of the theoretical and quantitative movement in French-speaking European geography.
