Étude et amélioration des performances de dispositifs hyperfréquences accordables à base de films minces ferroélectriques KTN et diélectriques BZN

Abstract : Reconfigurable devices are an attractive solution to reduce the complexity of radio front-ends in microwave wireless systems. In this framework, the objective of this work is to characterize coplanar tunable resonators printed on ferroelectric KTN thin films. In particular, the best trade-off between frequency tunability and insertion loss is investigated numerically and experimentally in X-band. Moreover, the main features of the KTN layer (relative permittivity and loss tangent) are determined up to 40 GHz for various KTN thickness values. Three original solutions are proposed to reduce the global loss of the resonators, i.e. to increase their figure of merit. They consist either in using a two-layer BZN/KTN or KTN/KNbO3 heterostructures, or in confining the KTN layer only in regions of interest through laser microetching. The KTN confinement enables to divide the global loss by a factor ~3 while keeping up the high frequency tunability (47%, against 54% before KTN localizing) under a moderate applied electric field (~75 kV/cm).
