Conceptions et systèmes de conceptions d’enfants âgés de 6 à 11 ans portant sur les déterminants de la santé et du cancer

Abstract : Background and objectives : qualitative data on how children view their health are relatively scarce internationally. The objective of this research is to map the conceptions and systems of conceptions about the determinants of health and cancer of children aged 6 to 11 years, to inventory their questions and knowledge and to analyze our capacity to collect these data from children. Methodology : using photographs, a qualitative and multiphase collection around three tools (e.Photoexpression©, "QC" (questions/knowledge), Photonarration), coupled with a mixed methodology of analysis (qualitative and quantitative) allows us to list the experiences and knowledge of each child and represents an added value in the understanding of their perception. Results : 2.272 productions were collected from 381 children in four french elementary school in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. On a collective scale, the children developed numerous conceptions covering all the determinants of health and cancer. At the individual level, they link them in an attempt to construct meaning around a phenomenon that goes beyond them but about which they express themselves from the age of 6. The "CQ" phase reveals a knowledge deficit : it is mainly centered on the disease, the cure, the symptoms and individual behaviors, and very little on the causes, ignoring the environmental determinants and prevention. However, many questions reveal their desire to know and understand. The identification of these results was only possible through the multiphase approach which shows an enrichment of the discourse between the different phases as well as a densification of the links established between the determinants. Perspectives : These results bring new data to the international literature and to science on this poorly documented field. They are the result of research and can be transferred to interventions. They highlight the identification of new avenues in health education and prevention that will enable us to act more effectively, as close as possible to the conceptions and needs of children.
