The Joint Establishment of the World Federation of Scientific Workers and of Unesco After World War II

The WFScW and Unesco have roots in the Social Relations of Science movements of the 1930s. They were prepared through many wartime debates about the function to be played by science for the welfare of humankind. Many progressive scientists tried to prolong their international commitments from wartime to peacetime. Both the WFScW and Unesco took form between 1946 and 1948, before the Cold War broke the scientist popular fronts.
